Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo, is one of the largest squares in Venice, located in the Castello district, on the border with that of Cannaregio.
At the center of the field, on a base of polychrome marble, there is the equestrian monument dedicated to Bartolomeo Colleoni by Verrocchio.
The imposing church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo (also called San Zanipolo) closes the corner with the Scuola Grande di San Marco which also extends along the foundations of the adjacent Mendicanti stream. Every year the field is also the starting point and the award ceremony of the SS regatta. The basilica of Saints John and Paul/ Santi Giovanni e Paolo is one of the most impressive medieval religious buildings in Venice, together with the basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. It is considered the pantheon of Venice thanks to the large number of Venetian doges and other important figures who have been buried there since the 13th century. In September 1922, Pope Pius XI elevated it to the dignity of a minor basilica.
